For UK collectors that means free transfers from BA Executive Club at par, and access to a cheaper Avios chart for Iberia metal out of Madrid. Pair that with materially lower carrier-imposed surcharges and Iberia becomes the cleanest transatlantic Business option in the Avios family.

How to build an Iberia Plus Avios balance

Transfer from BA Executive Club. Free, at par, once both accounts have been open and active for at least 90 days. The default path for UK collectors.
Amex Membership Rewards transfer. 1:1, usually instant. Useful if you want to keep your BA balance separate.
Iberia flights themselves. Credit any paid Iberia flight to Iberia Plus rather than BA Executive Club.

How to book

Single-segment Iberia awards book online. Multi-segment OneWorld itineraries sometimes need a phone call to the Iberia Plus service centre. Booking Iberia metal on ba.com Avios is also an option, but BA's pricing chart for the same flight is often higher than Iberia's own.

Sweet-spot redemptions

MAD-JFK in Business off-peak. 34,000 Iberia Avios one-way plus around £180 cash. Compare to BA's LHR-JFK direct at 50,000 Avios + £1,000.
MAD-ORD or MAD-DFW Business off-peak. 42,500 Avios one-way for the longer transatlantic routes.
MAD-Latin America in Business. Iberia has the strongest European-to-Latin-America network and prices these competitively.
Position LHR-MAD on BA Avios short-haul. 4,000 Avios + £1 each way off-peak, on the same Avios you're already holding.

Common mistakes

Skipping the 90-day account setup. By the time you've found an Iberia redemption you want, it's too late.
Booking the Iberia metal flight via BA Executive Club without checking Iberia's own price first. Iberia is usually cheaper for its own flights.
Trying to redeem peak-season; Iberia's peak/off-peak gap is substantial.
Tight connections between the LHR-MAD positioning flight and the long-haul, which are on separate tickets and not protected by Iberia.
