Iberia Plus: Status Tiers and Loyalty Benefits

Iberia Plus is the loyalty programme of Spain's flag carrier and a parallel Avios issuer to BA Executive Club. For UK collectors who use Iberia regularly enough to chase status, the soft benefits stack neatly with the cheaper transatlantic Avios chart.

The status tiers

TierElite points (annual)OneWorld equivalent
Classic0None
Silver (Plata)500Ruby
Gold (Oro)1,250Sapphire
Platinum2,500Emerald
Infinita5,000Emerald (with extras)
Infinita Prime10,000Emerald (invitation)

What each tier unlocks

Silver gives you priority check-in, an additional baggage allowance, and a 25% Avios bonus on Iberia flights.

Gold is the meaningful tier. Iberia Sala VIP lounge access in Madrid and at other Iberia stations, OneWorld Sapphire lounge access worldwide (including BA Galleries), priority boarding, and fast-track security.

Platinum grants OneWorld Emerald: BA First lounge and Concorde Room access at Heathrow T5, priority baggage, and increased reward seat availability.

Infinita adds personalised service, two annual cabin upgrade vouchers, and access to Iberia's premium check-in zone at Madrid Barajas.

Lounge access in detail

At Madrid Barajas T4, Iberia operates several Sala VIP lounges. The Velazquez Lounge is Gold's territory; the Dali Lounge is for First passengers and Platinum/Infinita. The Dali Lounge consistently makes "best airport lounges in Europe" lists.

Family and household

Iberia Plus offers a Family Account similar in spirit to BA's Household Account but with different eligibility rules. Up to seven family members can pool Avios; transfers between Iberia and BA Executive Club accounts are free but subject to the 90-day account rule. See the 90-day trick article for the operational mechanics.

The quirky benefit

Iberia Plus status accrues Avios on top of regular earning. Platinum members get a 100% bonus on flown Avios, which dramatically accelerates the rate at which a frequent Iberia flyer can fund another redemption. BA's equivalent bonus tops out at 50% for Gold.

The honest take

Iberia Plus status is genuinely useful only if you fly Iberia frequently. For UK collectors using Iberia opportunistically for the MAD-USA Business sweet spot, the status side is less relevant than the chart advantage. If BA Gold is in your sights and you have flexibility on which OneWorld carrier to credit, Iberia's Gold threshold is lower than BA's at the same effective mileage.
