Aer Lingus AerClub: Status Tiers and Loyalty Benefits
Aer Lingus AerClub is the smallest of the four major Avios programmes by membership, but for UK collectors who fly Aer Lingus across the Atlantic with any regularity, the status side is genuinely worth a look. Status comes from tier credits earned on Aer Lingus and OneWorld-credited flights.
The status tiers
| Tier | Tier credits (annual) | OneWorld equivalent |
|---|---|---|
| Green | 0 | None |
| Silver | 40 | Ruby |
| Platinum | 90 | Sapphire |
| Concierge | By invitation | Emerald |
What each tier unlocks
Silver includes priority check-in, priority boarding, fast-track security at Dublin and a 25% Avios bonus on Aer Lingus flights.
Platinum opens lounge access on departure at Dublin (the Aer Lingus Lounge) and on partner OneWorld Sapphire airports worldwide, free seat selection, increased baggage allowance, and a 50% Avios bonus on flown Aer Lingus flights.
Concierge is invitation-only for very frequent flyers and grants OneWorld Emerald access. Among other perks: dedicated phone line, two annual upgrade vouchers, and complimentary upgrades when seats are available.
Lounge access in detail
Dublin's Aer Lingus Lounge is the main draw: a clean, modern space with proper Irish breakfasts in the morning and an evening menu later in the day. Platinum gets you in when flying any Aer Lingus international flight or any OneWorld flight in eligible cabin/status combinations.
The Dublin Pre-Clearance bonus
Aer Lingus's Dublin hub offers US Customs and Border Protection Pre-Clearance, which clears US immigration in Dublin so you arrive at JFK, BOS or ORD as a domestic passenger. AerClub status doesn't change this benefit directly, but Platinum members get fast-track at the Pre-Clearance checkpoint, which on a busy summer evening can save 30-45 minutes.
Family and household
AerClub does not currently offer a Household Account equivalent to BA's. Family Avios pooling has to be done through individual Avios transfers across the family or by using BA's Household Account for accounts that are also BA-linked.
The quirky benefit
Aer Lingus does not pass YQ on its own metal, so AerClub members redeeming on Aer Lingus flights save significant cash compared to the same Avios spent on BA flights. The cash savings effectively make Platinum's reward booking benefits much more valuable in practice. See the Aer Lingus workflow for the operational details.
The honest take
AerClub status is worth pursuing if you fly Aer Lingus transatlantic at least twice a year. The Silver threshold is achievable with one return Business trip plus a couple of short-haul positioning flights. Platinum needs sustained engagement. For UK collectors using AerClub purely for the Avios-with-low-surcharges Business trick, status is a bonus rather than a primary goal.
