Aegean Miles+Bonus: Status Tiers and Loyalty Benefits

Aegean Airlines' Miles+Bonus has historically been the easiest path to Star Alliance Gold for any UK collector willing to credit a year of Star Alliance flying to the programme. The status side is the entire reason most Britons hold a Miles+Bonus account.

The status tiers

TierTier miles (annual)Star Alliance equivalent
Blue0None
Silver12,000 tier miles or 18 segmentsSilver
Gold24,000 tier miles or 36 segmentsGold

What each tier unlocks

Silver grants priority check-in, priority boarding and 25% bonus miles on Aegean flights. No lounge access at this tier.

Gold is the prize. Star Alliance Gold benefits worldwide: lounge access on Lufthansa, Swiss, Singapore Airlines and other Star Alliance partners, priority boarding, free seat selection, additional baggage allowance, and fast-track security at participating airports.

The Star Alliance Gold path

Aegean Gold's 24,000-tier-mile threshold is achievable for UK collectors with a few Star Alliance trips credited to Miles+Bonus rather than Aeroplan or United. A return LHR- Frankfurt in Lufthansa Business plus a return LHR-Zurich in Swiss Business can easily contribute over half the requirement.

Lounge access in detail

Aegean Gold opens any Star Alliance Gold lounge worldwide when flying Star Alliance. Aegean's own lounge at Athens airport is small but pleasant.

Family and household

Miles+Bonus offers family pooling between members at the same address. Status itself doesn't pool but miles do.

The quirky benefit

Aegean's Gold renewal threshold is also 24,000 tier miles per year, with no separate "elite-renewing" tier. Once you've hit Gold, maintaining it is essentially the same annual effort, with no escalating threshold over time.

The honest take

Aegean Gold is the cheapest Star Alliance Gold for moderate UK Star Alliance flyers. The threshold has historically been the lowest in the alliance. Aegean has adjusted the rules sporadically; always confirm current qualifying criteria before committing. For UK members who fly Lufthansa, Swiss or United regularly for work, the Aegean credit redirect is one of the highest-leverage moves in airline loyalty.
