Virgin Atlantic Flying Club: Status Tiers and Loyalty Benefits
Virgin Atlantic Flying Club has a clean three-tier elite structure with one signature on-the-ground experience: the Clubhouse. Virgin joined SkyTeam in 2023, so Flying Club status now grants SkyTeam alliance benefits across the network.
The status tiers
| Tier | Tier Points (annual) | SkyTeam equivalent |
|---|---|---|
| Red | 0 | None |
| Silver | 400 | Elite |
| Gold | 1,000 | Elite Plus |
What each tier unlocks
Silver grants priority check-in, priority boarding, free seat selection on Virgin Atlantic flights in advance, and a 50% Virgin Points bonus on flown flights.
Gold opens the famous Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse lounges (Heathrow T3, JFK, Boston, San Francisco, Washington, Newark and a handful more), SkyTeam Elite Plus benefits worldwide (so KLM Crown Lounge, Air France lounges), and increased baggage allowance.
The Clubhouse experience
The Heathrow T3 Clubhouse is consistently rated one of the best airport lounges in the world: cocktail bar, full restaurant, hair salon, treatment rooms, and a relaxation zone with day beds. Gold (and Upper Class passengers) get in regardless of cabin on a Virgin Atlantic itinerary. It's the standout reason to chase Flying Club Gold for anyone flying Virgin transatlantic.
Family and household
Virgin Flying Club does not currently offer a Household Account equivalent to BA's, which is the programme's most visible weakness for British families. Virgin Points can be transferred between named members for a fee but not pooled freely.
The quirky benefit
Virgin Atlantic Reward+ Mastercard cardholders can earn a Companion Voucher at spend thresholds, usable on a Virgin Points reward booking to bring a second passenger for one passenger's worth of points. The Upper Class voucher is one of the best non-Amex companion perks available in the UK; it's separate from status but complements it on the redemption side.
The honest take
Flying Club Gold is comfortably worth chasing for anyone flying Virgin transatlantic 3-4 times a year. The Clubhouse is the main draw, but the SkyTeam Elite Plus upgrade since 2023 has materially extended what Gold unlocks elsewhere. For UK collectors, Virgin sits alongside BA Executive Club as one of two serious British loyalty options.
