Turkish Miles&Smiles: Status Tiers and Loyalty Benefits

Turkish Airlines' Miles&Smiles is a small Star Alliance programme with a four-tier status ladder. The Elite tier equates to Star Alliance Gold and unlocks one of the more memorable airport lounges in Europe at Istanbul.

The status tiers

TierStatus miles (2 years)Star Alliance equivalent
Classic0None
Classic Plus25,000 / yearSilver
Elite40,000 / yearGold
Elite Plus80,000 / yearGold (with extras)

What each tier unlocks

Classic Plus brings priority check-in and modest baggage benefits.

Elite opens Turkish Airlines Business Lounges worldwide (and any Star Alliance Gold lounge), priority boarding, free seat selection, and a 50% mileage bonus on Turkish flights.

Elite Plus grants additional baggage beyond Elite, family-tier benefits where family members get reciprocal lounge access, and priority awarding for upgrades.

The Istanbul lounge

Turkish's flagship lounge at Istanbul New Airport is large enough that it occupies a significant chunk of terminal floor space, with table-service dining, a working pool table (yes, really), and a children's play area. Elite and Elite Plus get access; flying Business on Turkish also opens it.

Family and household

Turkish offers a family programme where status holders can nominate family members for reciprocal benefits. Mile pooling is limited.

The quirky benefit

Turkish's Elite tier preserves status through 2 years of qualifying miles, smoothing the year-to-year cliff that catches out most Star Alliance status holders.

The honest take

Earning Turkish status from the UK is hard without Turkish flying. Most UK collectors who care about Star Alliance Gold pursue it through Aegean's lower threshold instead. Miles&Smiles is mostly a redemption currency for the few cases where Turkish's award chart undercuts other Star Alliance programmes.
